The Los Angeles Kings hope to get off to a better start in Game 2 at San Jose, as they try to even up the Western Conference quarterfinals in Sundays road clash against the Sharks. Kelly Hrudey Jersey . San Jose claimed Game 1 on home ice by a 6-3 score, but that was after carrying a 5-0 advantage into the third period. Los Angeles will try to build off its strong finish in Game 1, as it attempts to avoid falling into an 0-2 hole before the series shifts to Southern California for Games 3 and 4. Already holding a 1-0 lead after Joe Thornton scored just over three minutes into the game, Tomas Hertl and Patrick Marleau tallied 48 seconds apart late in San Joses three-goal first period. Raffi Torres, playing in his first game since March 8, added a goal in the second period and Marc-Edouard Vlasic made it 5-0 later in the middle stanza. After the Kings made their push in the third, Brent Burns sealed the win for San Jose with an empty-net goal in the final minute of regulation. Burns, Hertl and Vlasic each finished with a goal and assist, while James Sheppard picked up a pair of helpers. Hertl, who had 15 goals and 10 assists in 37 games during his rookie campaign this year, became the first player in Sharks history to record multiple points in his postseason debut . Antti Niemi recorded 31 saves for the Sharks, who were bounced from last years playoffs by the Kings in seven games in the conference semifinals. "Obviously were a little disappointed in the way we responded there (in the third), but for the most part, it was a real good game on our behalf," Sharks head coach Todd McLellan said. Jake Muzzin, Trevor Lewis and Slava Voynov supplied the goals for Los Angeles, which saw goaltender Jonathan Quick chased after giving up five goals on 28 shots. Martin Jones stopped all four shots he faced in relief for the Kings. "Its a series and every chance you get to finish a check, rub a guy out, make it harder on them, tire them down, it pays dividends later," Kings captain Dustin Brown said of his teams play at the end of Game 1. "We needed a third period like that." Although Quick was pulled from Game 1, the proven postseason performer will get the start in Game 2. Quick won the Conn Smythe Trophy when the Kings won the Stanley Cup in 2012 and boasts a 29-22 record and a .927 save percentage over 51 career playoff games. In order to even the series at 1-1, Los Angeles needs to pick up a rare win at San Joses SAP Center. Including the playoffs, the Kings have lost 11 of their last 12 games on the road against the Sharks. In last springs playoff encounter, the home team won every game, but unlike 2013, San Jose holds home- ice advantage in this series. The Kings will host Game 3 on Tuesday, with the fourth meeting set for Thursday at Staples Center. Wayne Gretzky Jersey . And Richard Bachman, their rookie goalie, is facing a penalty shot a few seconds after the opening face-off. No pressure, right? Bachman stood his ground against Zack Kassian and saw the puck dribble off the Canuck rookies stick, then settled in and backstopped the Stars to a 5-2 win over Vancouver Tuesday that put Dallas in first place in the Pacific Division. Austin Wagner Jersey . - Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis said Wednesday hes "nodded off" during meetings, but he said its something every player does. http://www.officialkingshockey.com/Alex-Iafallo-Jersey/ .com) - Even-money favorite Liams Map proved a little too tough down the stretch and won Saturdays $100,000 Harlans Holiday Stakes at Gulfstream Park.TSNs Jack Armstrong offers his thoughts on the surprising Indian Pacers, a passive Chris Bosh, John Beilein as a head coach candidate, Scott Brooks big test and the breakout opportunity for Kawai Leonard. 1. Indiana Pacers: Who were those guys on Sunday? Wow. Where you been? Complete and total all-around performance on both sides of the ball. Can they sustain this for three more wins? Not convinced yet but they surely gained confidence that if they play to the level of their potential like Sunday, they can go toe-to-toe with Miami. 2. Chris Bosh (Heat): Too often was passive on Sunday and didnt exert his will. Hes a tough cover on the perimeter for David West and Roy Hibbert. Must show up and play with more energy and efficency. When hes making his mid-range jumper along with a few 3s, the court gets spaced out and the Heat are tough to stop. Need him engaged defensively and on the boards as well. 3. John Beilein (University of Michigan): Ive said all along the best target for GMs looking for a head coach was Stan Van Gundy. The Pistons made a smart move getting him. Now I will follow up once again on what Ive said many times before. If you are a GM thats progressive and willing to think outside the box instead of hiring a retread former head coach or some name ex-player, go get this guy. Pound for pound as good a coach thats out there today. Some college coaches cant or wwont make the NBA jump. Marian Gaborik Jersey. I have NO doubt that hed be an outstanding coup for a pro team. Hes a brilliant tactician, developer of talent and as imaginative an offensive mind that youll find out there today. It will take an owner and GM that have a true sense of the sport but if I were in the shoes of one of the five current teams with an opening, I would be trying to convince him to join my team. Teams spend a fortune in salaries and trying to develop young players yet throw money away doing the same old, same old. I assure you that this guy has IT. Makes a lot and actually too much sense to me. 4. Scott Brooks (Thunder): With Serge Ibaka out for the series, the head coach of the Thunder needs to mix/match with his front court rotations and find a way to get Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook in space to create tremendous scoring chances yet make sure the ball moves with a purpose and not be too ISO oriented. Balance and proper usage are critical here. Major test of his creativity. 5. Kawai Leonard (Spurs): Last years playoffs were a breakout forum for him and that has to continue here. Outstanding defender who will have his hands full at his position and has the shot-making ability on the perimeter to impact the series. He must be that consistent player with all aspects of his game. Need big-time effort out of a guy that can greatly impact the series.
